A Message from the Principal
I want to extend my thanks to those parents who have volunteered to participate in next Friday’s charter renewal interviews.
The parent perception survey is still open and I encourage parents to please complete the survey. It is an important piece of information we will use for next year’s planning.
Please mark your calendars and be sure to our Trade Up to Your Career event being held on Saturday, march 19 from 12:00-3:00 here at the school. This is an opportunity for you and your families to meet our business partners and lean about the career opportunities they offer for your child.
February 1st started Black History Month. Apprentice Academy staff and students have activities planned throughout the month. We have also invited our dear friend Ulunda Baker of Serve Unity to speak to share her experiences with our student body.
Our lottery registration is open and doing well. In addition to rising 9th graders, next school year we’ll be adding an 8th grade class. We have been asked by both students and parents how can we add these students given the size of the building, which is an excellent question. Of the 100 new students we anticipate for next year, 75 will be 9th graders and 25 will be 8th graders. Once a charter school has been in operation for three or more years, State policy allows charter schools to grow one grade a year without permission needed from the State Board of Education. Even though we are only adding a small number of students, we feel it is in the best long-term interest of the school that we continue to grow as the opportunity present itself.
Due to lack of interest, we will not be offering transportation. for Friday tutoring.
